Experimenting – Skin Salves

It has long been an interest of mine to create a line of skin salves or balms to address various skin concerns, particularly:

  • an anti-mosquito blend. I’ve had enough of seeing my poor Andrea come home from playschool or my in-laws’ dotted with angry, itchy mosquito bites!
  • to soothe eczema flare-ups. My soap can help soothe skin over the long term by reducing irritation caused by harsh detergents and other external factors, but sometimes a more intensive treatment that is left in the skin may be required.
  • to calm down and heal skin that’s itchy and inflamed from bug bites, diaper rash, minor cuts and nicks.

I’m still not entirely ready to work on moisturizers that need preservatives, so salves are next in line for the time being. These will generally be a simple blend of beeswax, carrier oils and essential oils–nothing else! I’m still formulating at the moment while I wait for my little round tins to arrive in the mail.

Do you have any favourite salves that you’d like to see an all-natural version of, or maybe a particular skin concern that needs addressing? Voice your ideas, opinions and concerns here and I’ll see what I can do. πŸ™‚

  1. i’d love to try your eczema salve when it’s done… what will you put in it? because eczema skin is super sensitive. and the ITCH oh the ITCH… anything that will help with that will be a blessing!

  2. Hey Jia Wen, would you like to be one of my guinea pigs for the eczema salve? What I have should work in theory, but I still need field tests. πŸ™‚ Key ingredients will include beeswax, sesame oil, jojoba and most likely lavender and patchouli essential oils. Let me know, okay?

  3. Michelle, I’m interested in this as well. I have sensitive face skin and made a huge mistake using a sample Laura Mercier scrub that is just too harsh and abrasive! Ugh… now my left cheek’s skin is rough and red. I’d used patchouli oil in the past mixed with basic moisturizer and it worked very well to remove red bumps on my forehead caused by constant hair brushing (I have bangs). I have no doubt patchouli will be highly beneficial in your salve mix. May I suggest Sandalwood as well? I did a google and came up with this page, very helpful!

Is this salve going to be available any time soon?

    1. Thanks for the link, I’m always keen to read new stuff and learn (and then apply, which is the really exciting bit. πŸ˜€ Will e-mail you in a while. πŸ˜‰
