Furoshiki-size

Let's do our bit about insanely wasteful gift wrapping! Here is an option to the usual disposable, single-use packaging that is prevalent in today's mass manufacturing and consumerism-driven society. Furoshiki cloths were originally used in Japan to carry clean clothes to public baths, then later to transport all kinds of personal belongings. I can't think of a more practical way to reduce our dependence on throwaway packaging and plastic bags!

I start by paying a visit to my favourite neighbourhood family-run fabric store, and picking out the prettiest, and hardiest materials that would withstand repeated uses over many years. Then we trim the fabric down to size and finish the edges with our faithful Singer. :)

If you are adding this to your cart as a gift wrapping option, leave the knot-tying to us. :) Just leave a message in the comments box upon checkout so we can work a little bit of magic to make your gift that little bit more special.

On the other hand, if you'd like to have some ideas for how to tie your furoshiki, have a look at this handy instruction panel for starters. There are lots of other online resources for you to refer to!

Stitches coming loose? We'll fix them for free.

In keeping with the spirit of reusing things, if your furoshiki loses some stitches, or becomes frayed at an edge, we'll gladly help you fix it at no additional charge. Just leave it at our shop, and we'll let you know when it's been refreshed and ready for collection.

Available sizes:

  • Medium (45cm x 45cm) - good for wrapping between 1-4 soap bars, or other small gift items

  • Large (60cm x 60cm) - can be tied into a small hand pouch that carries medium sized, oddly shaped gifts, or even your small essential items like keys, mobile phone and wallet.
